CVE-2026-96652: Plex Media Server Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) Vulnerability

Critical vulnerability warning above a compromised server core

An official source reports active exploitation. Teams running Plex Media Server should verify exposure and begin risk-reduction work now.

Plex Media Server contains a server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability which could allow an attacker using any X-Plex-Token value to include a full URL in the 'protocol' parameter and force the Plex server to POST to the attacker's chosen destination. This vulnerability can be chained with CVE-2026-96654, CVE-2026-96655, and CVE-2026-96656.

What changed

On October 21, 2026, this issue entered the urgent InfoSecNexus queue because exploitation is identified by an authoritative source. The source record, affected versions, and vendor remediation remain the controlling references; asset inventory and network context determine which systems should move first.

Why this matters

Plex Media Server affects a browser or server-side request boundary, where authentication state, user roles, and reachable internal services determine the real impact.

Exploit-first prioritization does not mean patching blindly. Confirm the vulnerable component is installed, identify the reachable attack path, preserve evidence of suspicious activity, and protect critical workloads while the permanent fix is deployed.
